ArchiCAD works in mysterious ways : issues and solutions

Updated: Feb 8

Fixing issues in ArchiCAD #1 - the solution that had me stumped

Long- or short-term users of #ArchiCAD may come across #odd issues that seem to have no workable solutions. It can get really frustrating going through the options and quadruple check all the obvious buttons only to find out that the issue is still there.

This happened to me while working towards a deadline and, after going crazy modifying settings again and again, I came across a totally unexpected solution.

I had two identical views placed on the same layout, but for some reason, one of them translated into different colour pens when exported to a .dwg file. The plans had the same pen sets and appeared fine in both ArchiCAD and PDF, but that was a totally different story once exported.

After running out of options, desperately relinking drawings and reopening both the source and host files, I was baffled to learn that changing the background transparency of that stubborn view on the layout did the trick. In my opinion, this had nothing to do with the issue, but it seems to have worked. Probably that was caused by a bug in the system, but changing the transparency of the view was certainly one method of overcoming it.

The conclusion?

Sometimes ArchiCAD seems to work in mysterious ways, so next time you come across an issue and you cannot seem to get to the bottom of it, look at it another way. So if you run into something similar or found the answer to your ArchiCAD problem in the least likely place, please share your experience in the comments box.
